Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved dramatically over the years, with Neural Networks playing a pivotal role in this transformation. These networks model the workings of the human brain to create patterns and process data, thereby improving machine learning capabilities.

Neural Networks are designed to recognize patterns and interpret sensory data through machine perception, labeling or clustering raw input. They help machines to understand natural language processing and translate speech into text or vice versa. Through these networks, AI can learn complex mathematical calculations which humans find difficult to comprehend.

The concept of Neural Networks is not new; it was first introduced in 1944 by Warren McCulloch and Walter Pitts. However, its application in AI has gained prominence only recently due to advancements in technology and increased computational power.

One of the main reasons why neural networks have become so important is their ability to learn from unstructured data such as images, text or sound. Traditional AI models require structured data service for generating content with neural network networks can make sense out of unorganized datasets. This gives them an edge when dealing with real-world problems where most of the data is unstructured.

Deep Learning is a subset of Machine Learning that uses Neural Networks with multiple layers – hence it’s often referred to as Deep Neural Networks (DNN). Each layer within DNN learns different features about the input data; for instance, if we feed an image into DNN, one layer might analyze colors while another could identify shapes.

These sophisticated algorithms have been successful in various applications like self-driving cars where they help computers recognize objects on roads such as pedestrians or other vehicles. In healthcare too, neural networks are making significant strides by helping doctors diagnose diseases more accurately than ever before.

Furthermore, these systems have also revolutionized Natural Language Processing (NLP), enabling machines not just to understand but also generate human languages effectively. Today’s chatbots powered by advanced NLP techniques can carry on conversations that feel incredibly human-like thanks largely due to neural networks.

Despite their incredible capabilities, Neural Networks do have some limitations. They require a large amount of data for training and are often deemed as ‘black boxes’ because it’s difficult to interpret how they arrive at a particular decision. However, the pros outweigh the cons and researchers are continually working on overcoming these challenges.

In conclusion, Neural Networks have significantly redefined AI by making machines more intelligent and capable of learning from experiences just like humans do. As technology continues to advance, we can expect even more sophisticated systems that will further blur the line between human intelligence and artificial intelligence. It’s an exciting time in the field of AI research and development with neural networks leading the way towards unprecedented innovations.
